Arbikie Highland Rye Scotch Whisky launched just at the end of December 2018 and this is Arbikie’s first year of celebrating World Whisky Day. Although we laid down our Oak Sherry casks way back in 2015, this is proudly our first year of toasting to World Whisky Day with our very own Highland Rye Scotch Whisky.
Highland Rye is a unique blend of three grains that are sown and grown on Arbikie Farm. Arantes Rye (52%), viscount wheat (33%) and odyssey malted barley (15%). Highland Rye, being Scotland’s first Rye Whisky in over 100 years makes it even more exceptional, particularly to the entire Arbikie team due to the challenging limitations faced throughout the growing and distilling process. Growing rye requires long periods of dry weather, and that can be challenging in Scotland! However, our location by Lunan Bay is one of the driest in Scotland and we’re lucky to have such a fantastic farm team onboard.
Records show Arbikie Farm having a distillery centuries ago, way back in 1794 when they would have followed an identical distilling process of field-to-bottle; using crops grown on the farm. Today, our team are not only celebrating World Whisky Day but also the tradition and provenance Arbikie has successfully brought back to Scotch whisky distilling methods. Our meticulous distilling and farming techniques, and unique traceability is something that our team endeavour to continue with Arbikie’s longterm presence in the whisky world.
