Ever wanted your favourite cocktail ready to pour for that all-important ‘night cap’?
Ever wanted your favourite cocktail ready to pour for that all-important ‘night cap’? Are you hosting a dinner party and want to bring your cocktail ‘A’ game? Well our pre-batch series is here to help. Over the coming months we’ll be looking at cocktails you can pre-batch ready to pull out of the ‘bag’ at any moment! Our Global Brand Ambassador Alex Forsyth kicks off the series with one of his favourites the classic Negroni.
The Negroni has been experiencing a renaissance of late with both bar tenders and consumers alike! Legend has it that Count Camillo Negroni asked his friend and bar tender Fosco Scarselli to strengthen his favourite cocktail – The Americano. Fosco replaced the soda with Gin and in 1919 at Cafe Casoni, in Florence, Italy the Negroni was born.
As with all classic cocktails, the balance struck between flavours is key. The Negroni is an equal parts drink of gin, sweet vermouth and Campari. Kirsty’s Gin is a natural choice for a Negroni with its perfect balance of sweet, bitter and creamy velvet notes. Kirsty’s Negroni is a perfectly balanced cocktail, making it the ultimate pre-dinner aperitivo to open up the palate before dinner.
Instructions
1:1:1 ratio:
Equal parts Kirsty’s Gin, Campari, Sweet Vermouth (Carpano Antica or Antica formula can be used as an alternative)
You Will Need:
An empty bottle to decant your cocktail:
Wine bottle with lid- 750ml (around 7 drinks)
A Spirits bottle with lid- 700ml (around 7 drinks)
1 litre Bottle with lid. (around 10 drinks)
Accurate measuring Jug
Bar Spoon
Funnel
For our example I have picked an empty spirits bottle.
1. Carefully pour 225ml for each of Kirsty’s Gin, Campari and Vermouth into a large container or a clean pan.
2.Slowly and carefully stir to bring all ingredients together for around 2 minutes.
3.Decant your cocktail into your clean spirits bottle or wine bottle and refrigerate.
4.The marriage of these flavours and ingredients develops the longer you leave your Negroni in the fridge. In fact the drink will develop more flavour and character the longer you leave it so each time you drink it will taste slightly different. Negronis have a long shelf life so no need to worry about it ‘going off’.
5.To serve; simply add some nice cubed ice into your rocks glass.
6.Top up with around 100ml of your pre-made Kirsty’s Negroni and garnish with an orange slice or use all the oils from an orange zest.
ENJOY!
